Mobile Index Registers

The processor contains four internal eight digit index registers known as the Mobile Index Registers. Unlike IX1, IX2 and IX3 which are part of the program address space, the mobile index registers (IX4, IX5, IX6 and IX7) are located within the processor and are loaded from memory with the LIX instruction and stored into memory by the SIX instruction. The mobile index registers are preserved in the Reinstate List Entry when a task switch occurs and are stored in the target environment stack for the function invoked by a Branch Communicate or Hypercall instruction and restored by the Return instruction.
